Anyone else amazed at how many choices of noodles you have at the Korean grocery store?! This instant Bibim Naengmyeon from @CJFoodsMarket (https://cjfoods.com) hits the spot on a super hot day or if you’re looking for a quick, satisfying meal.
What is Bibim Naengmyeon?
Bibim Naengmyeon is a popular dish to eat in the warm summer months due to it being a cold dish! “Bibim” means mix, while “Naengmyeon” means cold noodle, directly translating to “mixed cold noodles”. The noodles are made of buckwheat, arrowroot, or potato flour to give it its signature chewy texture, and is served in a gochujang based sauce. This dish is savory, sweet, spicy, and tangy!
CJ Foods Cold Noodle with Red Pepper Paste (Bibim Naengmyeon)
- This packet has two servings – two packs of noodles, flakes and their spicy sauce.
- You only need to boil the noodles for 40 seconds! Talk about a fast meal.
- Due to extreme chewiness of the noodles, it’s very common in Korea to cut your noodles with scissors before eating to prevent choking. These noodles were just thin enough so that I didn’t need to cut them, but if you’re serving to children, I would advise to cut the noodles just in case!
- Dress this up with a side of boiled eggs and sliced cucumbers to mix up the texture! You could also add more vinegar, or simply add your favorite kimchi if you need more tang.
Honest Review/Thoughts:
The noodles in this pack were super good! Great texture – perfectly chewy and held the bibim sauce really well! The sauce is actually quite spicy – I had to take a couple of breaks to drink water (and my spice tolerance is pretty high!). The sauce itself was a bit sour and not overly sweet, which I find to be common in most instant bibim sauces. I personally wished I didn’t add the whole sauce packet because it was spicy – be sure to add it according to your own taste!
