Who’s ready for yet another quick, easy, hearty soup? It’s March here in the Bay Area and temps are in the low 50’s. And what does 50 degree weather mean? SOUPS! BROTHS! PORRIDGES! With EMart PK’s products (http://www.emartamerica.com), you can produce delicious, quality meals with minimal effort. Seriously. You’ll be wrapping yourself back up in your blanket in no time!
What is Kimchi Jjigae?
Kimchi Jjigae, or kimchi stew/soup, is one of my favorite Korean comfort foods. This hearty dish is comprised of aged kimchi simmered in an anchovy broth. Beef or pork belly is commonly used as the protein, while veggies such as napa cabbage, onions and scallions are accompaniments.
This soup is equal parts spicy and tangy (from the kimchi). It has lots of umami, and is the perfect dish to warm up your soul.
Emart PK’s Taste of Korea: Kimchi Soup with Pork (Kimchi Jjigae)
- EMart PK has a ton of other products like this located in the refrigerated section of the market.
- Jazz it up by sautéing garlic and yellow onions before pouring the contents into a pot!
- This pack claims to be ready in 5 minutes, which is true! Simply just heat it up and you’re good to go!
Honest Review/Thoughts
I usually never have high expectations for packaged, ready made frozen meals. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised with this! It was packed with flavor on its own, and would’ve been happy to eat as is, but I can’t help but add as much freshness as I can by adding extra garlic and onions lol. Since traditional kimchi-jjigae is made with kimchi and its fermented broth, this pack was properly tangy, but not overly, which was great. It had a good amount of pork in its contents, which I appreciated.
Serving this over a bowl of rice made the meal perfect! I would say this is enough for two people. Don’t forget to season to taste. I personally added a little bit of fish sauce to give it a bit more flavor. I would definitely buy this again to have on hand for those busy days.
